回顾一下，这一年里，工作上换了新的岗位，有了新的上司，有了新的office，进修了一些新的课程，也travel了蛮多次（有一大堆旅游照片躺在harddisk里还没发表）。

在公在私上，算是很多event的一年，也是非常忙碌的一年，特别是后半年。

2010里我思故我在的blog,  路人甲一共发表了42篇blog文，少的可怜。希望明年能多一点时间update这个blog.

The fan noise comes from PSU is more tricky issue. Due to the small form factor of the casing, the standard size desktop PSU just won’t fit into the casing.
And to make the machine to be totally silent (Zero Noise 0db), I ordered the picoPSU online.

The picoPSU is a specially built PSU, which takes 12V DC input to supply the power for the motherboard. Combine the picoPSU with a battery brick(which convert the AC 240V to 12V DC), you get a totally silent PSU.

After the calculation of the total power consumption, I’ve decided to for the 80Watt version of the picoPSU. As I also need to have the power brick(the normal laptop power brick supply DC 19V, so it won’t work for this picoPSU), I ordered the power combo from shortcircuit.com – picoPSU-80/5A 60W AC-DC
I placed the order via shortcircuit.com(the shipping fee is cheaper compared to mini-box.com), and received the package in 2 weeks(shipped from US west coast, using USPS First Class International).

The power connector of the power brick is US type, but this was easily solved buying a cheap power plug adapter.

The power brick will connect to this connector, to supply the DC 12V. As there is no colling fan or movable unit, this thing is totally silent.

It feels solid when holding the picoPSU. The build is good, you won’t feel things will fall apart when you are installing it onto the motherboard.

Notice the 4 P4 pin are not being used. Since this PSU is meant for the low profile PC like the ATOM series, the P4 power pins are removed, to make it smaller.

With this setup, I now get a completely silent machine with Zero Noise (0db).

I have tested it for almost a week, running 24×7 non-stop, it is very stable and no issue so far.

This machine had been running for 3-4 years on 24×7 basis, and its hardware specs were quite aged(P3, 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD).  ~~~ (Rest in peace).

I need to rebuild a new machine as replacement.

The main functions of this machine will primarily be the Home NAS(Network Attach Storage) and as the Download Station. I also want it to be the HTPC(Home Theater PC) in the living room.

With these requirements in mind, I am looking for machine that must be ultra-low profile, in terms of form factor(size) and power usage, but yet powerful enough to play the 1080p contents. I am not going to play games or do any video editing on it, so I don’t need a powerful CPU or GPU.

The Intel ATOM processor series came across my mind. After some research, I found that the new Intel D510MO fits the above requirements.

This CPU is rated at 13Watt. According to another owner of D510mo, the total load is around 40Watt when playing 1080p movie (with other peripherals like harddisk, etc).

Note: 40Watt is equivalent to some household light bulb. The average power consumption of the Desktop machines I have, are running about 200+Watt. This is 5x times savings in terms of energy ($$$).

As with other Intel ATOM motherboard series, D510mo form factor is also Mini-ITX. The CPU is dual-core with Hyper-Threading(4 CPUs shown under Windows Task Manager).

What attracts me most is, this board is Fanless. Without the CPU-Fan, there is significant reduction of noise, which is very important because I am going to place the machine in the living room.

So, I went to PJ Digimall the other day to buy the motherboard and couple of other parts.

At the rear panel, there are built-in Video, HD Audio ports, 4x USB, Gigabits LAN, PS2 Keyboard & Mouse, VGA.

It makes no sense to get this mini-ITX board without a small casing.

Here is the picture of the D510mo installed in the casing. The casing can nicely fit in one 3.5″ HDD and one DVD-ROM drive.

I really need the casing to be small, so that it doesn’t look too intrusive in the living room.

This machine will be used as the Home NAS cum Download station, so it needs to have a large storage space.

I throw in a Samsung 1TB HDD for this purpose.

The casing comes with a power supply unit(PSU). Though it is smaller than the normal ATX PSU, the noise from the PSU fan is still quite noticeable.

My objective is to build a ultra-low profile machine with Zero Decibel (0db), not even low decibel. YES, I want it to be totally silent.

There are couple of Ultra Silent PSU in the market now. They are expensive, and they won’t fit into this small casing. Of course they are also not noiseless (0db).

I will talk about the solution for the noise issue in the next blog.

由于近来实在太忙， 路人甲一直没有把水果机(3Gs)upgrade firmware, 还是用着3.1.2的版本。

趁着这个Hari Raya的三天假期， 路人甲终于把3Gs灌了ios4.0（注意：4.0.2和4.1暂时还不能Jailbreak)

Backup + Upgrade + Restore + Jailbreak 差不多用了5个小时,  还蛮大工程的。

升级后的iPhone的速度感觉上比3.1.2时慢一点（但是还是能够接受的程度）。

ios4.0的好处当然就是终于能够在iPhone上multi-tasking了， 有了Folder功能， 而且Camera的shutter也变快了。(ios4.0的全Feature list)

用了2天， 还算稳定， 没有hang机过（jailbreak过后）。

但是今天一天之内， 身边的人提起iPhone4的已经不少过10人了， 看来苹果机4代的推出真是全人类期待的盛事（有点夸张）。

几个月前某位苹果iPhone的开发人员， 不小心地（路人甲带怀疑的眼神）把还未推出iPhone4的测试机留在酒吧里， 不用多久就被某IT消息网站报道了， 全世界的人就已经把iPhone4先睹为快了。

刚刚WWDC才结束， Steve Jobs也正式地推出iPhone4（他在WWDC还说：“你们有些已经看过了这个新设计”，大家都哄堂大笑起来）， 所以新的设计和功能基本上是没有什么惊喜了。

路人甲最喜欢的新功能就是Front Camera了， 终于可以Video Call了。

失望的地方就是LCD的size还是3.5寸罢了， 再大一点就更好了， 因为真的不想买iPad啊！（虽然有很多人已经嫌iPhone太大架了）

另外路人甲希望落空的是，还是没有温度计和湿度计（这个恐怕永远也不会在iPhone上出现吧…)

p/s: 在WWDC的视频里看到Steve Jobs变得更瘦了（基本就是皮包骨），看来两次的手术对他的身体影响真的很大．

睡了多半小时，路人甲起床出房门， 发现刚刚那位室友真的是女生。 路人甲的床位是上格， 她睡的是下格， 昨晚半夜回来时， 为了不要吵醒大家， 抹黑就爬上上个床睡了， 就没有发觉原来这间dorm是mix的。 陆陆续续大家都起床了， 梳洗后就交流了一下。 室友一共有3位, 昨晚已经遇见的德国男生, 另外还有一个美国男生, 一个以色列男生和这位澳洲女生. 都是在长期个人旅行者.

澳洲女生今天就check out了,  路人甲向旅舍的负责人加订多一晚(来澳门之前, 只订了一晚), 顺便要求换去下个的床位(比较好睡). 大约早上10点左右就出门, 第一个目的地是議事亭前地(Senado Square). 一出门, 今天阳光很猛烈, 气温应该有30多度, 和KL差不多.

从旅舍走了约5分钟就到了議事亭前地. 这里的建筑物带有前葡萄牙殖民地风格, 色调也多样化.

到了这里, 首先就是要找个地方吃东西. 看了这里几间餐厅, 不是价钱太贵, 就是食物不大吸引人. (在澳门这3天2夜, 发觉要在澳门找东西吃, 真的不是容易的事!)

由于天气实在太热, 就进去这里的Tourist Information Center吹吹冷气, 顺便看看里面的资料.

在Tourist Information Center呆了约10分钟, 就继续在新马路附近闲逛, 这里有很多卖衣服的小贩, 也有很多类似香港上环的海味店.

在某间钜记手信(在澳门, 到处都有它的分店)里买了个葡式蛋塔充饥. 味道不错!

由于事先并没有作什么的准备, 就以非常随兴的心情,  悠闲地漫步于这个城市.  走着走着, 渐渐走离热闹的新马路, 穿过了不少小巷, 走入了当地居民的住宅区.

这里就明显地冷清的多了,  也没有什么游客. 看到的都是当地的学生, 小孩, 老人等.

发现澳门的建筑除了市中心以外, 都很破旧. 而且人口很密集, 大家都是住在3-4层楼高的大厦, 只隔着一条不到10公尺的小巷.

路人甲想, 生活在这个城市里的, 必定很郁闷的吧, 因为连一个比较大的活动空间都没有.

在一间教堂前的小公园休息了一阵子, 由于走到太偏远了, 就依iPhone的GPS走回新马路.

差不多走回到議事亭前地的时候, 看见一间茶餐室, 然后在那里吃了一碗很好味道的芒果豆腐花和肠粉.

从来都不知道豆腐花也有芒果口味的. 心想如果在马来西亚卖的话, 一定很受欢迎的(有没有人要把它引进阿??).

这次的澳门机票是去年AirAsia搞免费机票时订的， 全程只要RM80+罢了。

由于机票太过便宜， 而且印象中的澳门也不是那么好玩， 所以一直没有把这次的澳门行放在心上（时间都花在计划7月的欧洲行了）。

一直到出发的1个星期， 才开始作一些有关澳门的资料搜查。 住宿也是上机前几个小时前搞定的。

飞机时间是下午4点45分， 到达澳门晚上8点多（免费机票的时间都是这样的。。。）。

澳门机场不大， 入境处的人员效率去很慢， 路人甲等了半小时才入境澳门。

然后， 马上去找传说中的免费赌场穿梭巴士。

上了威尼斯人酒店的穿梭巴士， 巴士很新， 车顶还会不断地变颜色。

5分后就到达威尼斯人酒店， 它的外观已经是很壮观了（晚上的灯光效果）， 好象真的把意大利的威尼斯搬了过来澳门。

由于要赶去酒店check-in, 路人甲就没有逗留威尼斯人太久， 马上又搭了去金沙赌场的穿梭巴士（金沙和达威尼斯人是同一个集团的，所以之间有免费巴士互通）。

从达威尼斯人到金沙的路途就比较久， 大约10分钟。 巴士从屯仔区经过大桥到澳门半岛市区。 一路上可以观看到澳门的夜景和娱乐场的霓虹灯，让人感受到东方拉斯维加斯的魅力。

到了金沙赌场， 路人甲就走去葡京酒店的方向（今晚的住的地方就在葡京附近）， 路程有点远， 路人甲大概走了20分钟才到。

其实之前路人甲在网上找澳门酒店时， 发觉澳门的酒店都满贵的， 便宜的都要RM170+,  然后全都是双人房， 没有单人房的。

算下看， 虽然拿了免费机票， 但是要花那么多钱在酒店的话， 还是很不划算， 路人甲就像放弃这次的澳门行了。

后来在Lonely Planet看到有一个backpacker lodge(Auguster Lodge)，一晚床位(6人一室)才HKD120 (RM50+)， 才决定成行的。

这间lodge是两个菲律宾籍的大婶经营的， 就在葡京酒店隔两条街， 位于一栋旧商业大厦3楼。

地方很小， 但是还算干净(路人甲的标准, 别的人可能接不来).

Check-in时遇到今晚的室友,  一位20来岁的德国小伙子. 交谈了一下, 知道他现在正在环游世界的第6个星期了,  澳门之前的旅程是纽约, 拉斯维加斯, 东京, 首尔, 北京, 悉尼, 香港….. 下个目的地是中国内陆.  路人甲问他其他的室友呢, 他说还有一个澳洲人, 一个以色列人和一个美国人.  路人甲冲了凉后就去赌场了.

先去葡京, 看看这间澳门老牌赌场, 然后就去了永利, MGM Grand和星际. 看看各酒店赌场的设计, 真的是各有特色比豪华, 看尽澳门的纸醉金迷.

在MGM Grand的赌场玩乐到凌晨3点,  小赢了几百港币(澳门赌场都只受港币的), 然后回Auguster Lodge睡觉.

为了不要吵到别人, 路人甲进房时尽量轻手轻脚, 好象作贼酱.

当时气温大概26-7度, 不懂为什么这班西方人竟然不开冷气睡觉!!! 如果是马来西亚人的话, 肯定会开冷气的, 除非病了.

虽然有点热, 但是忍着, 然后就睡着了到天亮.

虽然目前为止主流的还是CSS2,  但是CSS3 和HTML5成为未来网上WEB标准的日子也不远了.

某位日本的网友只用了CSS3(完全没有用JPG, GIF, PNG图像)之下, 画了Doraemon多拉a梦.  如果是CSS2的话, 根本不可能!

下图显示了, 各大Browser对于CSS3的支持度.

效果最好的是Chrome和Firefox (路人甲: 不令人surprise的结果吧!).

Firefox的话, 眼睛不会动, 但是阴影效果和圆线等效果完美.

Opera没有了阴影效果.

Internet Explorer的话, 惨不忍睹…… (路人甲: 也是一个不令人surprise的结果)

这个已经有了百多年历史的世界盛会（第一届世界博览会是在1851年于英国伦敦举行）， 一直以来都是世界各国用来宣传本国特色的平台。

2010年的主办地点是上海， 而中国也不忘乘这次的盛会， 向世界宣传中国的山寨文化。胆敢连宣传曲也是抄的。结果被网友踢曝是抄自日本歌手岡本真夜的“そのままの君でいて”（1997）。

虽然原曲不是什么出名经典曲， 但是这么大的盛会的宣传曲， 怎么可能会没有人发觉。。。。真的不可思议。

欧洲四只小猪国(PIGS – Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain)又不断传出不利的消息, 看来欧元还会继续跌下去.

看到欧元汇率不短地跌, 路人甲当然觉得高兴咯 (发别人的国难财…).

这几个星期， 问几间KL的money changer, 都说没有小额的欧元了. 要换的话, 就只有500欧元.

看来不少人也在乘机扫欧元货币了.

路人甲应该会在这个星期再入货欧元!
